Weekly Wednesday Updates:Weekly Wednesday Update=October 30-November 13, 2019
Work on INTEL Forms and Research Plans. Once your project has been approved by me (or the PV and LA county fairs for pre-approval) then you can start experimenting. Weekly Wednesday Update=October 23, 2019
Reminder that our next lunch meeting is Monday 10/28 at lunch. These meetings are not optional. Your research plans and typed INTEL forms are due in 3 weeks for everyone on 11/14. I need to go through these line by line with you. If you need pre-approval, the PV fair date is 11/5 and the LA fair date is 11/11. If you are doing anything with humans, vertebrates, toxic chemicals, bacteria, yeast, microorganisms, cell lines, etc then you must get pre-approval on these dates. Just a heads up that I am NOT on campus next Wed or Thursday so if you need help with pre-approval you need to get organized and figure out what forms you need and what questions you might have for me and schedule a conference. See you all MONDAY at lunch. Weekly Wednesday Update=October 16, 2019
Are you meeting with me to talk about your TOPIC? I have all conference spots open on the calendar from now until the end of November. We are officially ONE month away from ALL research plans being due to me. If you are doing pre-approval, then your plans will be due even sooner on Nov 5 for the PV fair and Nov 11 for the LA county fair. See below. PRE-APPROVAL IS COMING UP QUICKLY IN 2 WEEKS...READ THIS IF YOUR PROJECT INVOLVES A PRE-APPROVAL TOPIC: For the PV fair, you will need to submit forms 1, 1A, 1B and your pre-approval topic specific form + your research plan to me. You will need to type all the INTEL forms and bring to me with your research plan: https://student.societyforscience.org/intel-isef-forms For the LA county fair, you will need a password to login in. Request a password NOW if you need pre-approval and then you will type in your information on the LA website. Scroll down to the 4 steps to register for a password. https://www.lascifair.org/pre-approval/pre-approval-general-info/ Weekly Wednesday Update=October 9, 2019
No School Today but you should be brainstorming your topic and meeting with me to discuss where your project is heading. Weekly Wednesday Update=October 2, 2019
I hope you are having a great week so far! Reminder that you need to show up for your scheduled conferences. Some of you have missed your conferences so I sit here waiting and another researcher could be talking to me. We have our next all class lunch meeting on Monday, October 2 in Room 210. Focus will be on finding articles and writing your research plan. You have 6 weeks to develop your idea and submit it to me for approval BY November 14, 2019. LA County pre-approval #1 is next Monday IF you are working with one of the pre-approval topics. Email me and I will show you how to get a password and get started. Have a wonderful rest of the week. Weekly Wednesday Update=September 25, 2019
I look forward to seeing your families tomorrow night at Back to School Night at 6pm in Room 210. I will be going over what a research cycle is and what it means to be in an independent research class. For those of you that are ready NOW, the first PV pre-approval date is next Tuesday, October 1. You will need your INTEL forms and research plan if you are ready. There will be another pre-approval opportunity in early November. The first pre-approval for the LA fair will be Monday, October 7. This is all online and I will work with you in a conference on how to get online and get your info submitted. For now, work on generating ideas for your conferences with me and/or your research plan if you are that far in the process. Weekly Wednesday Update=September 18, 2019
It's always nice to see everyone together at our monthly meetings! Thank you for being there. If you missed the meeting you can stop by and get your missed agenda. There are a few things you should be doing right now: conferencing with me, brainstorming every idea possible and logging in your lab notebook. Please tell your family that I will be hosting a Science Research Back to School Night Meeting next Thursday at 6:00pm in Room 210. This is before Back to School Night Starts at 6:30pm with zero period. Lastly, if you know your project needs pre-approval and you are ready to submit NOW, then the first pre-approval due dates are October 1 for the PV fair and October 7 for the LA county fair. Weekly Wednesday Update=September 11, 2019
Happy Wednesday Researchers! I hope your classes are going well. Right now you should be THINKING about what your research topic might be. Read, brainstorm, search sites, read more and think about what you LOVE about any area of science. What peaks your interest? What might solve a problem? What could you make better or more efficient? And HOW can you make it into a quantitative project? Thing BIG, think SMALL but dive in. This is the hardest part. We have an ALL CLASS lunch meeting next Monday in Room 210. We will go over some more basics as everyone will be together. Also, make sure to sign up for your first conference with me. Reminder I am not available at lunch on Wednesdays. Email me if you have never gotten an email from me so I can add you to our list. September 5=Returning Meeting=BRING COMPOSITION BOOK
